ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS)
ISO 50001 is a standard of requirements for Energy Management System (EnMS) and allows an organization to achieve continual improvement of energy performance by following a systematic approach. It is based on the management system model of continuous improvement, which is also utilized for well-known standards like ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Thus, this could make it simpler for businesses to incorporate energy management into their overall quality and environmental management activities.

It is applicable to any organization, regardless of its size, complexity, geographic location, organizational culture, or products and services it offers; and applicable to any activities that impact energy performance that is managed and controlled by the organization.

History of ISO 50001
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) recognized the need for the industry to respond effectively to climate change around the world and the stakeholders decided to ask ISO to establish an international energy management standard in 2007 (Wikipedia 2021). The first edition of ISO 50001 was established by ISO in 2011 and the latest version was published in 2018, were designed to follow the same High-Level Structure (HLS) as other management system standards and encourage small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) to embrace it.
