ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
ISO 22000 is a standard of requirements for the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) and states what an organization must undertake to demonstrate its ability to control food safety concerns and ensure the safety of its products.
ISO 22000 is a set of worldwide voluntary standards that align to the World Trade Organization (WTO)’s principles for the Development of International Standards. ISO 22000 principles are interactive communication, system management, prerequisite programs and HACCP principles.
Who need ISO 22000 Certification?
ISO 22000 is applicable for any organization in the food and feed industries, regardless of size or sector. It is built on the same High-Level Structure (HLS) as other ISO management system standards, allowing for easy integration with an organization’s existing management procedures. HACCP and GMP are an important element and criteria in ISO 22000.

History of ISO 22000
ISO 22000 was originally developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is the result of global collaboration and cooperation among all parties. There are two editions of this International Standard which are ISO 22000:2005 and ISO 22000:2018. Instead, ISO 22000:2018 is the latest version which launched in 2018. It has added more detailed criteria such as:

- PDCA Cycle
- Operation process
CERTIFICATION PROCESS OF ISO 22000
The organization that plans to get ISO 22000 can follow the ISO 22000 certification process below:
- Organizations need to understand the ISO 22000 standards requirements.
- Implement the ISO 22000 requirements in the organization’s process (Fine tune the internal procedure if needed)
- Implementing the new procedure with ISO 22000 requirements
- Select Internal audit team (require competency)
- Conducting internal audit to check on the implementation towards ISO 22000 certification
- Top management review the result of ISO 22000 implementation, objective and other mentioned in the ISO 22000 standard
- Appoint Accredited Certification Body for the external audit/3rd party audit.
- Rectify the finding or non conformity from the external audit/3rd party audit if there is
- Certification Award
